Echoes of Bharathi is a multi-episode cultural tribute series and podcast dedicated to celebrating the legacy of Mahakavi Subramanya Bharathiyar, India’s iconic Tamil freedom fighter, poet, and social reformer. Launched to commemorate his 143rd birth anniversary, the project was developed by the Center for Excellence in Media, Entertainment & Communication alongside the Art & Culture Centre at Shri Shankarlal Sundarbai Shasun Jain College for Women.
The project serves to bridge traditional Tamil literary heritage with modern digital formats. Core Elements of the Initiative
The Podcast Series: It features dedicated biographical and musical episodes examining Bharathiyar’s life, his unapologetic stand against British rule, and his contributions to the Indian independence struggle.
Special Guests: Notable episodes include interviews and segments featuring Shri V. Rajkumar Bharathi, the great-grandson of the poet, who shares personal family perspectives on the visionary’s enduring words.
Musical and Dance Performances: Students recreate and perform classic pieces such as “Theeratha Vilayattu Pillai” (a joyful song celebrating the divine, playful nature of Krishna) and “Manathil Uruthi Vendum” (“Firmness in the Mind”), translating his poetic imagery into classical dance and song.
AI Innovations: Certain episodes have integrated interactive AI storytelling components to conceptualize an immersive conversation with the late poet regarding his revolutionary philosophy. The Vision
The main theme behind Echoes of Bharathi is exploring how his concepts of social equality, women’s empowerment, and deep patriotism remain highly relevant. By adapting his 20th-century classical verses into contemporary multimedia formats, the initiative aims to make his legacy lively and spiritually accessible to younger generations.
