Mix Player vs. The Competition: Which Player Wins?

To play every video format using MX Player, you need to use the right decoder tools inside the app. MX Player is a great app for Android and iOS. It can open almost any video file like MP4, MKV, AVI, and MOV.

We will assume you are using MX Player on an Android phone, which is the most common way people use it. Here is how to make sure every video format plays perfectly. Change the Decoder Settings

Videos use different codes to run. MX Player has three main tools called decoders to read these codes:

HW Decoder: This uses your phone’s main chip. It saves battery but does not work for every video type.

HW+ Decoder: This is MX Player’s special tool. It plays more videos smoothly and can make the sound louder.

SW Decoder: This uses software to read the video. It is slower but can play almost any format when the others fail.

If a video does not play or has no sound, tap the HW or HW+ button at the top right of your screen while the video is open. Change it to SW Decoder. Install Custom Codecs for Missing Audio

Sometimes, a video will play but you will not hear any sound. This happens because of licensing rules for certain audio formats like AC3 or DTS. You can fix this by adding a custom codec pack:

Open the MX Player Support Page or check trusted developer forums like XDA to find the “All-in-One” (AIO) custom codec pack. Download the zip file to your phone. Open MX Player and tap the Menu (three lines). Go to Local Player Settings and then tap Decoder. Scroll down to the bottom and tap Custom codec.

Select the file you downloaded. The app will restart and now play those tricky audio formats! Set MX Player as Your Default Option

To make sure every video format opens automatically with MX Player, set it as your main video app: Open your phone’s Settings app. Tap on Apps or Applications Manager. Find your phone’s old, built-in video player. Tap on it and select Clear defaults.
