Step-by-Step Tutorial: Convert Disc to MP3 With FairStars CD Ripper
physical audio CDs can clutter your shelves and limit your listening options. Converting your discs to MP3 files allows you to enjoy your favorite music on modern smartphones, computers, and media players. FairStars CD Ripper is a lightweight, efficient, and free software option designed specifically for this task.
This guide will walk you through the entire process of turning your physical CD collection into high-quality MP3 files. Step 1: Download and Install the Software
Before you begin, you need to set up the program on your Windows computer.
Visit the official FairStars website and download the latest version of FairStars CD Ripper.
Launch the downloaded setup file to start the installation wizard.
Follow the on-screen prompts, accept the license agreement, and complete the installation. Open the program once installation is complete. Step 2: Insert Your Audio CD
Place the audio CD you want to convert into your computer’s optical disc drive. Wait a few seconds for your system to recognize the disc.
In the FairStars CD Ripper interface, look at the top drop-down menu labeled CD-ROM Drive.
If your disc details do not load automatically, select your drive from this drop-down menu. The software will scan the disc and display a list of tracks with their lengths. Step 3: Fetch Track Information (Optional but Recommended)
By default, your tracks might appear with generic names like “Track 01” and “Track 02.” You can manually edit these, or let the software do the work for you. Click the Query button on the toolbar.
FairStars will connect to an online database (FreeDB) to automatically find the album name, artist, year, and track titles.
If multiple matches are found, select the correct album from the list and click OK. Your tracklist will instantly update with the correct information. Step 4: Choose MP3 as the Output Format
Navigate to the bottom right or center of the program window to find the Output Format section. Click the drop-down menu and select MP3 (LAME Encoder).
Click the Setting button right next to the format drop-down to adjust the audio quality.
For a good balance between audio quality and file size, set the bitrate to 192 Kbps or 320 Kbps (highest quality). Leave the sample rate at 44100 Hz and channel mode on Stereo. Click OK to save the settings. Step 5: Select Your Storage Destination
Look for the Output Directory box at the bottom of the window. Click the Browse button (folder icon) next to it.
Choose the folder on your hard drive where you want your new MP3 files saved (such as your “Music” folder) and click OK. Step 6: Start the Conversion Process
Check the boxes next to the tracks you want to convert. To rip the entire album, click the Select All button on the toolbar. Review your settings one last time.
Click the large Extract button (usually represented by a disc or play icon) located on the top menu bar.
A progress bar will show the ripping speed and time remaining. Once the process hits 100%, a notification will confirm that your files are ready.
You can now open your destination folder, transfer the MP3s to your phone, and enjoy your portable music collection. To help tailor future guides, let me know: What Windows version you are currently running?
